Hi. I'm Emma,

a designer and
student of life

Psst... try hovering over some stuff 😉

From the beginning of my studies, I have been driven by a desire to design thoughtfully and sustainably. I learned early on that every choice in a system - whether in geography, engineering, or creative projects - has ripple effects. This systems thinking guides my approach: great design must consider not just individual elements, but how they interact within the bigger picture.

The Power of Perspective

This exhibition highlights some of the complexities of human actions and emotions during and after the Rwandan genocide of 1994 and hopes to take visitors beyond simple judgment.

New Skills:
Making an Exhibition (the words were definitely too big), Low-Fidelity Prototyping, Creative Brainstorming (this really helped us become more comfortable working with a lack of information, making mistakes and learning from our different perspectives through conversation, especially with such a sensitive topic)

Flutter and Fade

The top part of these shoes quickly biodegrade during a 5-hour hike, reflecting the peacock butterfly wing's temporality. The user is guided through this experience by a travel guide which links sensations to information, and can repair the shoes using a repair manual that relates every step to the peacock butterfly.

New Skill:
Making Bioplastics (this was a start but we could have experimented more), Design Innovation Methods, Regenerative Design Theory (I want to get better at this!)

Lost Signal

This escape room plays with the concept of lag. Players are employed at a radio station and are divided between two rooms: the broadcasting room and the listening & recording studio. Their goal is to broadcast a song on the radio in 10 minutes or they will get fired.

New Skill:
Arduino IDE, Making Connections with OOCSI (Object-Oriented Communication System Infrastructure), Using Recycled Parts
